Your shared countdown

So that both phones show the same countdown, our server (Cloudflare, data centers in the EU and worldwide) stores a “space” with the date of your reunion, random device identifiers, the six-digit pairing code (valid for 7 days) and, if you share a countdown link, its random key. Anyone with the link can see the date. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (providing the app).

We keep this data for as long as you use the space. When you tap “Leave space” in the app, we delete your device; when the last device leaves, we delete the space with its date, codes and link. Pairing codes expire after 7 days and once both phones are connected.

New couples can use Lovers Countdown free for 7 days. The free week is meant to apply once per couple. That is why the app stores a random install identifier in your iPhone's keychain and sends it when you create or join a space. We store which space it was and whether it had the free week, and use this to check whether the free week is started more than once from the same phone. This record is kept for 12 months, also after “Leave space”, and then deleted. Storing the identifier on your device is strictly necessary for the free week you use (Section 25(2) No. 2 TDDDG); the legal basis for the processing is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in protecting the free week from repeated use).

Your photo

A photo for the “Your photo” style stays on the phone you pick it on. It is never uploaded. Only when you share a picture yourself via “Share” does it go to the app you choose.

Purchases

You buy Lovers Countdown Plus through Apple. We never receive payment details. We use RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc., USA) to manage purchases; there, the purchase is linked only to your space's random identifier. Our server asks RevenueCat whether Plus is active and stores that on the space so your partner gets Plus too. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR; transfers to the USA rely on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses.

Measuring Apple Ads campaigns

The app fetches an attribution token from Apple's AdServices framework and passes it to RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc., USA). RevenueCat uses it to ask Apple whether the app was downloaded through an ad on the App Store (Apple Ads) and, if so, which campaign and search term led to it, and stores that with your space's random identifier. We only see aggregated numbers, such as how many purchases came from a search term. There is no tracking across other apps or websites. The purpose is to measure which ads work. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in measuring our advertising); transfers to the USA are covered as for purchases.

Usage statistics

To see where new couples get stuck during setup, the app sends individual events (for example “space created”, “paired”, “offer shown”) to PostHog (servers in Frankfurt, EU), together with random identifiers for the device and the space and technical details such as device model, operating system and app version. Names, your reunion date and IP addresses are not stored there. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (improving the app).

Audience measurement on loverscountdown.com

To understand how this website is used, we count page views and clicks on the App Store buttons with our own cookieless counter. Nothing is stored on or read from your device (no cookies, no local storage). Your IP address and browser identifier are processed only briefly to form a daily value that can no longer be linked after midnight, and to detect automated traffic; they are not stored. We store the page visited (shared countdown links only without their key), the source (for example a search engine or campaign), country, device type, browser and operating system family, and the page language. The counter is operated on our behalf by Sonder Studio GbR on Cloudflare servers (database in the EU, processing in data centres worldwide). Individual events are deleted after 13 months; after that only daily totals without reference to individual visits remain. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in privacy-friendly audience measurement (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). If your browser sends “Do Not Track” or “Global Privacy Control”, nothing is counted.

Server logs

When the server is called, Cloudflare processes technically necessary data such as the IP address to deliver the request and fend off attacks.

Your rights

You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection, and the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority. Just write to support@h1ko.com, for example if you want us to delete your space.
